Ocotal Beach Resort Costa Rica
A few weeks ago I spent the weekend at the Ocotal Beach Resort located in, of all places, Ocotal. After renting a small Peugeot and driving five hours through rain and slow moving traffic we arrived at the resort at around 7:30 PM. The check in was quick while the receptionist was friendly and helpful. As we walked to our rooms it was hard to miss the beautiful views that we’d wake up to the next morning. Our room had a 32” flat screen mounted on the wall although the picture of the ChangHong television left something to be desired as it was fuzzy and reminded me of my childhood and adjusting the bunny ears antennae on my Zenith just to catch the newest episode of Fraggle Rock.
The rooms were spacious and the air conditioner made it easy to drop the temperature to 60 degrees Fahrenheit within minutes. Among the positives that this hotel presents are the excellent restaurant that in my opinion has the best view in all of Ocotal, the three pools at the resort that leave every room situated in close proximity to a pool, and the short distance to the beach.
While the beach is close, Ocotal is set on very steep bluffs and I’d recommend using the complementary shuttles that the hotel provides. You can call the front desk to ask for one and in addition to that option are numerous guards with walkie talkies that will call a shuttle upon request. The staff at this resort was attentive, upbeat and eager to please. The food was enjoyable as well, especially the waffles available at the daily buffet that is included in the room rates.
All in all, I’d recommend this Costa Rica hotel for families, couples and especially those interested in diving or deep sea fishing.
