Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge in Costa Rica
Nicuesa lodge, in Golfo Dulce, is one of the most interesting places I have been to here in Costa Rica. I really enjoyed the tranquility, and how secluded it is. Although the there is still some construction and gardening being done, the place is very beautiful. Walking the paths of the complex is a wonderful experience. You can see all the flowers and exotic plants and even some of the wildlife right on the gardens and there are also very impressive views of the mountains surrounding the lodge. Arriving at the lodge, we were greeted by the managers and were quickly invited to join them and some of the other guests for lunch.
The managers, Michael and Marie do an incredible job. They have created a very cozy atmosphere, which encourages guests to interact with the staff and with the other guests, having them share their day’s adventure. The managers of Nicuesa really make an effort to make a connection with all their guests, and really make it a very unique experience. The rest of the staff is also very friendly and are very knowledgeable of the area, being that most of the staff is from the immediate surroundings.
The rooms are very comfortable and feel cozy. Even though the area is extremely humid, the open-air design of the rooms and a fan, made the night very comfortable. The open-air shower is always fun, and the there is hot water! The only draw back the rooms have, is that the doors have no lock, which I think will be strange for some people. During the day there is a lot to do, like hiking through very lush trails in which you might see some exotic animals, and a very beautiful waterfall. There are plenty of other tours to take advantage of in the immediate area, like a horseback riding tour, snorkeling, kayak tours, and a river tour, which is one of the most popular tours they have.
The food was good, although they give you no real choice. You eat what they decide to make that day, which was ok with me. The food was made with vegetable grown locally or even on the property, and the fish was caught during the afternoon. Over all, the food was great, and so was the staff and management, but most importantly, the location and the effort they exert to satisfy the customer and protect the environment are the qualities that really stuck out during our stay there.
