Great Food in Ciudad Colon.
If you are looking to get away from San Jose and still enjoy a great meal take a short drive about 19 kilometers southwest of San Jose to the little town of Ciudad Colon. We have found a little gem of a restaurant there. It is called Casa 76 and it specializes in great Italian cuisine.
The atmosphere is charming and casual with combination indoor and outdoor dining. The mood is enhanced by candles on the tables and interesting music selections playing in the background. Some nights you get reggae, others light jazz, and still others contemporary latin music. The menu is fantastic with bocas, salads, pastas, calzones and more, plus the best pizza I’ve yet to have in Costa Rica. Come hungry too because the servings are large. My favorite is the fettucini Marinaro, which is perfectly cooked pasta tossed with your choice of tomato or cheese sauce and shrimp and vegetables. It is absolutely delicous. It’s also served with great toasted bread, so enjoy that with the homemade pesto or garlic spread. Casa76 is also B.Y.O.B. so feel free to bring your favorite bottle of wine, beer or whatever you like. There is no corking fee at the restaurant.
To get to Casa 76 take the pista from San Jose past Santa Ana and continue straight. The pista will turn into a two lane road that runs straight into Ciudad Colon. When the road ends you will have a choice of turning left or right but not going straight. Turn left, make the next right, and the restaurant is just ahead on your next right hand corner. They are open every day but Mondays. Enjoy!
