I went to Ocotal Beach Resort in August and had a blast! It was night when we first arrived and the resort is fairly dark once the sun goes down. Our rooms were nice, comfortable, fun bed linens and curtains and new flat screen tv’s. But that was as much as we saw on the first night.

My group headed on over to Playas del Coco for some dinner and nightlife. I had been to Coco about 4 years ago and was much more impressed this time around. The beach town looked a lot cleaner, a little more built up, and there were more restaurant and bar choices than before. There is one larger seafood restaurant where we ate and then we did a little bar hopping. For the size of the town, the two bars we went to on the main strip were quite full and attracts a variety of people.

The next morning I woke up unsure of what to expect, and the view was incredible! We had a panoramic ocean view right from our room and a little patio outside to relax and take it all in. This Costa Rica hotel has three pools, one by our rooms that looked for the older mature crowd who wanted serenity and peacefulness while reading books beside the pool. There was another larger pool by the reception office, which I never saw anyone in. And there is another pool down by the beach where it looked like most of the families with smaller children went. There is a pool bar here and a little grill to purchase sandwiches and snacks. I liked the convenience of not having to go up the hill again just to get to the restaurant.

The staff was friendly, the view is breathtaking, the rooms are nice…..and the bungalows even nicer. Although, if you stay in the bungalows, rent out both, otherwise you will need to share a private pool with your neighbors which seems a little awkard. The bungalows are best for a larger family or friends, and honeymooners should stick to the sunset suites!
