Costa Rica Villas in Dominical
This past weekend, I went to Villas Gaia in playa Dominical. I had never been in that part of the country, and although the weather was not in our favor, I can still say it was a wonderful experience. On the way there, the drive was pleasant and not too long, even though the main road was closed. Once there, I was able to appreciate how beautiful that part of the country is. It was less crowded than I expected, yet there was still a very lively atmosphere in a sleepy town kind of way. Dominical is small and cozy, however, there are some developments around the town that just make it lose some of its character. For the moment though, it is still very undeveloped.
Villas Gaia is a series of small little houses that can fit a decent size group. The villas are easily accessible from the main road and not too hard to find, yet offer a nice sense of privacy. The rooms are simple, and could have had better furniture, however, they are pretty well equipped. The pool area has a great view of the ocean and the nature around the villas. The pool itself was not great, yet any pool is always fun. The best part of the Villas Gaia was the restaurant. They have a wonderful yet simple menu that in all honesty was a bit unexpected and quite enjoyable.
After settling in the first night, having a few drinks and a good night’s rest, the next morning I went to one of the many beaches. The beach was not crowded, perhaps due to the fact that it is low season, or because it was raining a little bit, still the beach was very pretty. The surf was a bit rough, which off course its great for surfing, and there was a lot of driftwood on the beach. The next day, I went to a different beach, which is right off the hotel property. That beach was very difficult to get to, having to hike down the mountain, walk through swamp like conditions, and crossing knee high mud and a river to get to the beach. Once on the beach, I realized it was very much worth the trouble. The beach was very big and clean, and very relaxing. My favorite part of that beach was the caves, which were a lot of fun to explore.
I must say that after this experience, staying in a villa was much more private and preferable to staying in a Costa Rica hotel.
