The Alta Hotel.. For Your Consideration
Looking for a bit of “Old Colonial” allure and luxury in a convenient location? If you are traveling to San Jose for business or pleasure, consider the Alta Hotel. Last month, I drove up to check out the place. The property is nestled on a mountain overlooking the central valley from Escazú. Alta is about 20 minutes from the airport and downtown San Jose. The location is especially handy for those travelers arriving at the San Jose airport in the afternoons or evenings. Alta is a great place to spend the night and get a fresh start on continuing travels around Costa Rica.
With just 23 perfect rooms, the boutique-style inn delivers travelers a delightful, surprising level of luxury and comfort. In a relaxed atmosphere of understated elegance, guests receive the finest in personalized service. I was impressed by Alta’s royal accommodations, extensive facilities, thoughtful amenities and fine cuisine. Alta’s handsomely appointed rooms offer queen or double beds and most feature spacious balconies with expansive views of The Valley of the Sun or private patios with lush tropical gardens. Alta’s suites spoil you with master bedrooms and king size beds. The opulent bathrooms offer exquisitely tiled vanities and a host of other thoughtful amenities.
Situated beside and above the blue, glass tiled pool, dining at Alta’s La Luz Restaurant is an unforgettable experience. As I dined, I enjoyed the restaurant’s panoramic, sweeping views of the valley below. I was informed diners can, upon request, enjoy poolside dining under the 100-year old, Guanacaste tree. The menu featured an amazing selection of Costa Rica inspired dishes, most with a California flare. After a long day of meetings or sight-seeing, La Luz will impress and de-stress. The restaurant also provides in-room dining service.
Next time you have an early meeting in the Capital or an early tour transfer departure time, consider this beautiful retreat for a great Costa Rica hotel. You’ll be glad you did.
