Capitan Suizo, quiet getaway in Costa Rica
This past weekend I stayed at the Capitan Suizo hotel in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Capitan Suizo is owned by a Swiss couple who moved to Costa Rica with their two children after falling in love with the country. The hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, which only six are part of in all of Costa Rica.
This hotel is distinguished by great service and a caring staff. Another great feature of the hotel is its location, at the very end of Playa Tamarindo the beach is only fifty feet from the sand, in an very quiet section of the beach. The area is perfect for those traveling to Costa Rica who want to stay in a cool thriving beach town, enjoy many restaurant and tour options, without being directly in the town.
The hotel in general lacks many amenities you would expect to find in a four star hotel. The rooms lack televisions, alarm clocks, and have very low quality/ low tech radios, and only half of the standard rooms have air conditioning. I found the hotel to be rather plain, for being one of the Small Luxury Hotels I was unimpressed, nothing stood out as being extremely memorable about the rooms or the layout of the hotel. If staying here I would suggest a bungalow, these rooms are much nicer, have a massive bed with a fantastic mattress, all bungalows have a jacuzzi and are right next to the pool, restaurant and beach.
The restaurant is located right next to the pool and offers a nice variety in fish, meats, and pastas on the menus. The restaurant like the rest of the hotel was nothing extremely special, but the service was great.
