Barcelo Tambor (review)
I’ve just returned from the Barcelo Playa Tambor where I spent the weekend that I think every tico in CR went on a drinking weekend as the bar was 5 deep with male tico’s drinking Imperial like tomorrow it was prohibition.
Anyway the drive to Tambor was nice and the ferry ride was an experience. The roads in the area are rather bad and I would highly suggest a 4×4 only or get a transfer. The hotel is located just after Los Delfinas and before Tango Mar hotel.
The rooms are very basic and poorly maintained, there are normally 2 doubles in the room or a king if requested. The bathroom has all the amenities you would think of, hair dryer, shower and tub, etc. The rooms really need a face lift as my sheets were dirty and the pillows smelt of man sweat. However when we informed the front desk the rooms were quickly changed linens and all was good. No rooms have Ocean views however they are all in close proximity to the beach. The pool is large and has a big swim up bar. The buffet restaurant is not too big and can seat up to 150 people. The food was not too good to be honest as you would expect of a large all inclusive. There is a disco at night until 3am so people can drink until the sun goes down.
Generally not too great of a hotel, it is rated a 5 star by the ICT but I
would give it 3.
