The Ministry of Energy and the Environment (Minae) decided to raise the entrance fees to national parks an average of 67%, because of inflation. Instead of paying $7, foreigners will be charged $10 to enter most parks, where as Costa Ricans will be charged 1,000 colones instead of 600 colones.

A record-breaking amount of marijuana was confiscated just before the New Year in Costa Rica, which proved to be no exception to a year dominated by drug seizures and crack-downs. A total of 21,233 people were arrested for violating the Narcotics Law in Costa Rica in 2007 according to a report released by the Drug Control agency.
