Between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, the Immigration Police detained seven Costa Rica escorts who had apparently obtained their residency cards by illegal means. The raid involved a sweep local bars and clubs in search of any illegal aliens.

Tourist arrivals by plane to Costa Rica have increased 11.3 percent in the first nine months of this year, in comparison to the first nine months of 2006. Air passengers represent about 78 percent of the total tourists that visit the country, the rest arriving by land or sea.

The annual Boca Barranca Charity Surf Tournament will take place in Boca Barranca, Puntarenas this October 27 and 28 to benefit the young inhabitants of the Hogar Monserrat home for orphans. All proceeds from the event, as well as autographs from the participating surfers, will be donated to the orphanage.
