Costa Rican Taxis Getting More Expensive

Recently the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Publicos (Aresep) approved a 10% increase in taxi fares. The taxi association had only asked for an 8% increase but they were pleasantly surprised to hear it went up even more.

Privatization of Costa Rica’s Caribbean Ports

A $600 million modernization of the two Caribbean ports, Limon and Moin, will give the Caribbean Coast a leg up.  The government hopes to solicit bids by May of 2008 for a private company to rebuild and manage the ports. 

A New (Paved!) Road between Nosara and Samara

The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation has finally budgeted money for a paved road between Nosara and Samara on the Nicoya Peninsula.  The 30km of new road will help connect the towns between the two popular destinations.

Leatherback Turtles Arrive to Costa Rica

The first leatherback turtle of the season arrived on Playa Junquillal, a small beach just south of Tamarindo.  The early arrival is almost a month ahead of schedule, but according to biologists this could be a sign for a fruitful season.
