Savour the Salsa of El Gran Combo

Experience the Salsa Genius of El Gran Combo
A weekend of indulgent excess awaits Costa Rica with the arrival of rhythm and movement from El Gran Combo, the Puerto Rican salsa music group. The maestro musicians will be joined by orchestra La Solución and group Salsa y Son. All arrangements will perform from 5 p.m. this Sunday, Nov. 9, in the disco Rumba in Santa Ana Belén. It is an event not to be missed!
El Gran Combo has received rapturous responses from the public for more than 50 years and will surely continue pulling large crowds. They were founded in 1962 by Rafael Ithier, who to this date is still within the group as director and pianist. Some of their previous musicians have gone on to become great generational figures, including Andy Montañez, a group member between 1962 and 1977.
As one of the most popular Latin American groups, they have more than 70 CDs under their belts and are nicknamed Universidad de la Salsa (“University of Salsa”). Some of their greatest hits have been Me Liberé (“I Freed Myself”), Verano en Nueva York (“Summer in New York”), Oye Salomé (“Listen Salome”) and No Hay Cama Pa’Tanta Gente (“There is No Bed for So Many People”).
El Gran Combo is currently promoting their most recent work Arroz con Habichuela (“Rice and Beans”). The real music will likely get going from 7 p.m. on Sunday, and is undoubtedly one of the best ways to finish off a weekend.
