Get Ready for some Reggaeton
For those of you who are unclear, when you Travel to Costa Rica and venture out to experience the nightlife, you are bound to encounter reggaeton everywhere. It is urban music which blends reggae with bomba, plena, meringue, bachata, and hip hop together. Its also combined with Spanish rapping. This form of music is what the youth of Latin America consider their own.
Reggaeton has its own specific beat and rhythm which is referred to as “Dem Bow,” named after the song that ignited this revolution. It is basically a blend of music from the Caribbean, Latin America, and the United States and the lyrics tend to be more hip hop than anything else.
Many of the places that I have been to, have played this type of music at night and it is pretty infectious. It may not be the best music, in fact I find it kind of annoying, but it is hard not to dance to. So when you come to Costa Rica be ready for an “experience of a lifetime.”
