The Costa Rican Youth Let Their Voices be Heard
Students stood outside of the legislative building in San Jose waiting for the results of the vote Sunday night. They eagerly waited for hours to hear what the country had decided. Students are notorious for making their points known and this is exactly what the city had anticipated.
After the results were released several of the students started to burn flags and chant in disgrace. For many of the students they feel that the yes vote is similar to ¨selling the country¨ to the United States. The students were angry because they feel that ¨democracy was lost¨ and the whole process, with its ups and downs, was fraudulent.
The students were causing quite the stir, but the city was prepared with police on hand. Therefore the evening never got out of hand.
In the next couple of days it will be very interesting to see how the country deals with the outcome.
