Wine Expo Starts Today in Costa Rica
Representatives from wineries from all over the world will unite in the Hotel Real Intercontinental today, Oct. 23 through Thursday, Oct. 25 to present their finest labels during Costa Rica’s first ever Expo Vino. The goal is to unite some of the world’s top wine producers with an interested public including wine connoisseurs and owners of wine bars and fancy restaurants.

The event, sponsored by trade magazine Ekaconsultores, is open to the public and $25 buys you a wine glass to sample wines from the 100 stands that will be present from 1pm to 9pm each day. The entrance fee will also get you tickets for the wine bottle raffle, and entrance to several Wine Tasting discussions. Traditional and not-so-traditional hors d’oeurves will be served to accompany the wines.
The three days of events will also include a series of talks and demonstrations, as well as wine dinners at designated restaurants in the city with tickets ranging from $55 to $65 per person.
The United States will be represented in full force, with 11 wineries all from Lodi, California, which will look to take advantage of the new free trade agreement recently approved by a national referendum, which will allow exporters to bypass a 15 percent duty charge. This will allow them to compete with wine producers from Chile who already enjoy the free trade status with Costa Rica.
Wine producers from the United States also said that Costa Rica is a market of high interest due to its large middle and upper classes.
Other countries that will be represented include Chile, Argentina, Italy, Spain, France, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.
