Costa Rican Taxis Getting More Expensive
Recently the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Publicos (Aresep) approved a 10% increase in taxi fares. The taxi association had only asked for an 8% increase but they were pleasantly surprised to hear it went up even more.
The taxi drivers requested this price rise to increase salary and to accommodate for the growing gas prices. The taxi association also believes the new prices will allow drivers to give the customers better service.
For all classes of taxis (sedans, handicapped, and rural) the first kilometer will increase by 40 colones.
Expect to see the new prices taken into effect next week after they are officially printed.
Although the prices are increasing, taxis are still an affordable alternative to owning a car, hassling with traffic, or finding that pesky parking spot.
