Substances Banned to Prevent Health Issues

It was a big day for Costa Rican health officials. The Health Ministry has made two sweeping decisions today that will forever affect the health of thousands of Ticos. These measures, which ban sales of two harmful substances, and will certainly save thousands of lives.

Costa Rica News — Substances Banned

First, the Ministry is forcing the recall of the Swiss beer, Hanfblute. The beer, which depicts a man and woman bringing in a harvest in a green field, is a subliminal message invoking people to smoke cannabis according to authorities. This is following a report that the beer actually smells like cannabis. The makers of Hanfblute have five to ten days to collect all the product, otherwise the government will start confiscating the banned beer. A specialist on Addictive Substances advised the Ministry that the beer could have negative effects. The Ministry has not, however, taken any action to ban incense, oils and cigarettes that are commonly sold in the country with the scent of cannabis.

Secondly, the Ministry has made an official recommendation to the City of San Jose to prohibit the use of confetti this December. They claim that people often pick up the confetti from the dirty streets and throw it at people passing by. This creates a health risk for the citizens of San Jose. Therefore, the city of San Jose has decided to plan “other cultural activities” instead of the throwing confetti.

So this Christmas, if you were planning on enjoying a Hanfblute while throwing confetti, you’ll be out of luck. You may just have to settle for an Imperial and “other cultural activities,” planned by the city of San Jose.
