Rising Crime in San Jose Neighborhoods

In recent months, San José’s more affluent neighborhoods have become stricken with crime.  Houses are being robbed in broad daylight, cars are being vandalized and robbed, and children are being assaulted.  This is a growing concern as many people have chosen to live in these neighborhoods because of the safety.  Montelimar, just north of downtown, has seen the most change, while Rohrmoser, Santa Ana, and Escazu are also being affected.

Residents in Montelimar, especially on Calle Boruca, have seen the most crime.   This recent crime spree has caused the area to close down a very popular park after some sketchy individuals were found lurking there at night and after a few scuffles.   In addition the area has decided to fire the security guard and has hired round the clock surveillance through a private company.  The park closing has caused a lot of children a lot of heartbreak and in response parents would like to reinstate an unused police booth in the playground.

Steps have been taken to increase security in these areas, but it is a fact that San Jose is just not that safe no matter where you live.

But do not worry, if you planning on traveling to Costa Rica, just stear clear of the big city.  It is not hard to come to Costa Rica and see everything without even setting foot in San Jose.  In fact when I was getting advice from friends back home that is exactly what they said.
