New Sidewalks for San Jose
If you have ever been to San Jose and accidentally tripped on the dilapidating sidewalks, you are not alone. In fact I have done it myself multiple times. It has become such a problem, the mayor of San Jose broke ground yesterday on a new project to rip up the old sidewalks and replace them with brick like squares of concrete.

The $240,310 project is part of the initiative San Jose Possible, which hopes to turn the city into a more attractive place for visitors and citizens while making it more pedestrian friendly. The 6000 square meter area, which runs east to west from calle 7 to calle 1 and north and south from ave. 1 to ave. 4, is projected to be finished this December. The new sidewalks will be in compliance with the law demanding wheelchair ramps in all public places.
In addition to making the area more pedestrian friendly, the initiate also includes putting more police on the streets to make the city safer. This may be a great plan for the aesthetics of San Jose, but it is not the answer to the constant gridlocks downtown. Perhaps that is the next step.
