Helping ¨Cool Down¨ Global Warming
Written by alanp
1.5 million native trees have been planted recently in an effort to curb global warming. The Ministry of the Environment announced the big news along with several other ideas that it is trying to implement in order to help global warming.
Some of the other ideas that were suggested were to generate electricity using methane from the landfills decaying trash and the use of bio-fuels in public transportation. Both of these are in the beginning stages of being implemented, but the methane from the landfills guidelines are just two weeks shy of becoming a reality.
29% of the carbon dioxide emissions in Costa Rica come from public transportation and the initiative to use bio-fuel will help lower these emissions.
In addition, there have been ten organizations that have signed a documents stating that they will become carbon-dioxide free. This means that they will decrease their emissions and they will plant trees to counteract the emissions they could not lower. The organizations range from universities to banana growers, with many more organizations taking an interest.
