ATA Flight to Costa Rica Canceled Before it Began

ATA Changes its Mind About Flights to San Jose, Costa Rica.
The newest direct route between Miami and San Jose, Costa Rica was discontinued before it ever began. The airline responsible, ATA Airlines, has yet to make an official announcement about the change, but a representative did confirm the cancellation with Costa Rica Pages. Passengers who had already booked the route received calls yesterday to explain that the route has been terminated and that they would be getting a full refund for their flight purchase. This comes less than a month after the original announcement that the route would be inaugurating its first flight on March 15th.
The airline is not only targeting Costa Rica Flights; ATA announced, in a press release dated March 6th, that all international service will be terminated by June 7, 2008, which includes routes to Cancun and Guadalajara, Mexico. Domestic U.S. flights out of Chicago Midway Airport will also be canceled, including routes to Oakland, California and Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas.
Representatives of the airline said that with rising fuel costs it is unprofitable to continue many of its current routes. They will be redeploying their aircraft to enlarge their presence in the charter flight market where they can make more money. They will also focus more on their U.S. military contracts to fly troops to the Middle East and destinations abroad.
If you believe your reservations may be affected, you may call the airline at 800-435-9282. Their website www.ata.com has yet to make any announcements about the cancellations.
