Costa Rica: Becoming a World Contender
In the past two months, Costa Rica has taken the necessary steps to become more involved in the world market. The country has so much to offer the rest of the world. The main exports are pineapples, bananas, coffee, sugar, melons, and electronic goods. In 2006 the main export partners were the US, Netherlands, China and the UK.
Just this past June, Costa Rica made a bold move toward a bright future with one of its major trading partners and one of the largest diplomatic countries in the world. On June 1st, diplomatic relations were established between China and Costa Rica with the hope to increase trade. President Oscar Arias sees this as a great opportunity and a very positive move.
Yesterday, the ambassador and several Costa Rican business owners participated in a seminar to get them ready for a commercial mission to China in October. The goal here was to raise awareness between the companies here and the new friendships that will hopefully be formed once they arrive in China. The aim is build friendships and trust between the countries so that they become more acquainted with goods. China will most likely increase their imports of pineapples, coffee, and bananas. It will be a difficult challenge to export to China, but the country is behind its business owners and ready to help.
