CAFTA vitual winner in Costa Rican referendum
With nearly all results in, CAFTA can be considered a reality for Costa Rica. At 90% of voting centers accounted for, 51.7% of the ballots were for Yes, and 48.3% for No.

Statistically this is a good enough lead to consider CAFTA verified by the referendum. The minimum voter turnout for the referendum to be binding is 40%, however preliminary figures put this at over 60.2%, meaning that the country has already chosen its future today.

Heredia 52.4% vs 47.6%
Guanacaste 47.5% vs 52.5%
Puntarenas 49.8% vs 50.2%
Limon 56.1% vs 43.9%

OK, so my photos aren’t the best quality this time around, I wanted to test out a video capture card, so those are actual TV shots.
Speaking of technology, I was impressed by their computer logistics software which was able to provide accurate results a mere 2 hours after the polls had closed.
As well the CAFTA story has been amongst the top headlines in Google News and other services world wide. Will be interesting to see if it gets more coverage than the 1st game in the World Cup against Germany
