Fun & Frolics in the USA!!

It was the year 2003 and I was just 21 years old,
A good friend explained he was going to the USA,
My boyfriend and I were invited too I was told,
I was so very excited, having never been away!

The day of departure arrived at last,
I boarded the plane and took my seat,
I must admit, I felt awfully aghast!
But such a long flight was a fantastic feat!

We first had 3 days in New York City,
Admired Central Park, the wonderful lake
With row boats offering great tranquillity
So different to home, it all felt fake.

We took a ferry past the Statue Of Liberty,
Relaxing on board as the world floated past,
Saw a breath-taking view from the Empire State Building,
Was certain we could almost reach the stars at last!

Visited Ground Zero, felt the ever-lasting pain,
Read the messages stuck all around,
For loved ones never to be seen again,
The only part of New York not drowned out by sound.

We then flew on to Las Vegas baby!
Only a small flight this time,
Was I getting used to flying maybe?
Because this time I managed just fine.

The heat hit me the second we touched down,
Too much for a pasty UK girl like me!
We checked in and then hit the Town
Drinking cocktails all night long, lovely!

We stayed at the Imperial Palace,
Watched American shows on TV,
Ate Cheeto’s and got s*** faced!
And suffered slightly from S&D!!!

We dined at Harley Davidson, marvelling at the bikes,
Tried our luck at Casinos strolling along the Strip.
But didn’t get far as in the heat it felt like a hike,
(Next time we go we better get a grip!!)

We visited another hotel, The Flamingo,
And lounged around the pool.
Saw a massive real life cockroach!!!
And saw it squished by someones shoe!!!

We flew over the Grand Canyon in a rickety plane,
Whiteknuckled the seat all the way!!!
After we had an Indian BBQ lunch so we wouldn’t wane,
As there was quite a trek involved today

It was such a shame when we had to go home to the UK,
But we spoke light heartedly of returning to get wed,
Now 5 years later, we are planning our Big Day,
And yes, it’s in Vegas, just like we always said.
