One of my husband’s and my favorite vacation moments was when we went to Spain. We rented a car to go to a bullfight in a neighboring town. It broke down on the highway in between the two towns. It was on a Sunday, so most everything was closed. Luckily a city bus pulled over. Unfotunately we hadn’t exchanged our U.S. dollars for Euros yet, so we had no dinero for the bus fare. We were so desparate and embarrassed!
A very kind English woman on the bus paid for us, and it was so nice to hear a familiar language! When we got to the town, we discovered that the fight had been cancelled on the account of rain. We went into a bar to use a phone to call the rental company. I saw an actual bullfight on the TV, and I cried because I didn’t know they killed the bull at the end. Thank goodness the fight was cancelled!!
We lived off our plane snacks for two days ( A can of Pringles and Raspberry Milano cookies). We were able to communicate enough to get a tow truck to come get us and get another rental within 48 hours. We took pictures with the hood of the car up and us strangling each other. It’s the highlight of our photo album! We really bonded with each other on that trip, so it holds a special place in our vacation memories!
